Rev. Hayes Dean Kennedy, age 76, died Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Care Center, Goldsboro, NC

Hayes Dean Kennedy was born on April 23, 1939 to Arthur and Mamie Kennedy in Beulaville, NC. He grew up in Duplin County and enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing. He was a rambunctious boy and loved to have fun, sometimes at his sisters' expense! Dean also worked hard assisting his father with the family farm.

Dean, or Hayes Dean as he was called by many, married Treva Gail Jeanes on August 31, 1958. From their union came daughter Melanie and son Rocky. The family shared wonderful times together, especially as they frequently traveled to the mid-west for Dean to receive specialized training.

As an adult, Dean served for 30 years in the Federal Aviation Administration, retiring in 1991 as an FAA Sector Field Office Chief. After retirement, he started his own business servicing instrument landing systems at numerous airports in several states.

He also pastored Haymount Original Free Will Baptist Church for over 30 years and is remembered as a loving, caring leader who would drive great distances to be there for those in need. His greatest desire in life was for his family, his friends and all people to know Jesus as their Savior and devote their lives to Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Treva, who was a pillar of strength for him during his pastoral ministry, and an older sister Sara Frances Bostic.

He is survived by his younger sister, Norma Faye Willard of Garner, NC, and his younger brother, Arthur Frederick Kennedy of Hawaii. He is also survived by his daughter Melanie Seymour and husband Doug of Pikeville, NC; his son Rocky Kennedy and wife Gwen of Pink Hill, NC; grandchildren Derek Seymour and wife Michelle of Pikeville, NC; Tabatha Hubbard and husband Dwayne of Pink Hill, NC; Roxi Simpson and husband Justin of Pink Hill, NC; Chancey Kennedy and wife Brittany of Pink Hill, NC; Kayla Seymour of Pikeville, NC; Dillon Kennedy of Pink Hill, NC; and great grandchildren Ryan, Brayden, Ethan, Makenzie and Kaydance.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Blended Fellowship Church, 2091 Big Daddy's Road, Pikeville, NC. Visitation will take place at 6:00 PM.

Graveside Service will be Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 4:00 PM at East Duplin Memorial Garden, Beulaville NC.

Rev. Kennedy asked that this quote be included in any announcement:
"Instead of flowers, I ask that donations be made to Blended Fellowship, a ministry focused on the deaf and hard of hearing and their family members. I fully believe in this ministry and have supported it in every way I could. Since my retirement, I've spent many hours volunteering and working side by side with my deaf friends. I encourage you to do what you can to support this ministry and keep it going. All of God's work is important but the work done through Blended Fellowship is especially close to my heart. Deaf people need to know about Jesus and communication is the key"
