Greta Johanna Tapken was born June 21, 1906, in Castle Grove Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Helen Ortgies Tapken. Grace attended the rural schools in Cass Township. Grace Tapken and Alfred Ommen were married Oct. 2, 1929, in Cass Township, Jones County, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Langworthy area, where Alfred worked as a carpenter. In 1949, they moved to Monticello. Alfred preceded Grace in death on Sept. 22, 1978. Grace died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2000 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
