Ardella Berg, 77 of rural Westside, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2009, at St. John Catholic Church in Arcadia. The Celebrant was Father Joe Dillinger. Lector was a granddaughter, Kelly Kannel. Gift Bearers were her daughters, Sue Ann Heuton, Brenda Johnson and Julie Eich, and Mass Servers were Ashley and Kelsey Blum. Eucharistic Ministers were Tom Heuton, Tom Eich, and Richard Ricke. Honorary Pallbearers were Della's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casket Bearers were grandsons, Jeremy Heuton, Matt Heuton, Eric Johnson, Daniel Eich, Joe Berg, and Mark Berg. Burial was at St. John Cemetery in Arcadia.
Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll was in charge of arrangements, and visitation was held there Friday, July 31, 2009, with a Christian wake service by St. John Parish that afternoon and a rosary prayed that evening by St. John Guild.
Ardella was born on April 4, 1932, at Manning, the daughter of John and Johanna (Muhlbauer) Singsank. She spent her younger years in the Manning community and graduated from Manning High School. On September 26, 1951, she was married to Donald C. Berg at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Mr. Berg was in the U.S. Marine Corp. so the couple spent their first two years at Camp Pendleton, California. In 1954, they moved to their farm north of Westside. Ardella was a homemaker and helped on the farm, and in later years, worked at the Arcadia Country Store and the Westside Diner. She was a member of St. John Parish and the Parish Guild. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Berg is survived by six children, Michael Berg and his wife, Kathy, of Arcadia, Kenneth Berg and his wife Doreen, of Ames, Sue Ann Heuton and her husband Tom, of Glidden, Randy Berg of Westside, Brenda Johnson and her husband Chris, of Arcadia, and Julie Eich and her husband, Tom, of Arcadia; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother Earl Singsank and his wife Jean of Manning; sisters, Verna Hass and her husband Merlin of Manning, Laurel Vogl and her husband Earl of Carroll, and Cleo Hansen and her husband Gary of Overland Park, Kansas; and a sister-in-law Connie Singsank of Manning. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Berg in April 2001; her parents; a granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Heuton; brother Glenn Singsank, and a sister Margaret Popp.
