Eugene Walter Aumann, age 86, of Eau Claire, died early Thursday morning, March 26, 2015, at Care Partners Lindemann House in Eau Claire surrounded by the love of his family. Gene was born June 2, 1928, in Elbowoods, ND, the son of Walter and Margaret (Weinand) Aumann. Gene grew up on a dairy farm near Stanley, with his five brothers and one sister. He graduated from Stanley High School in 1946. Gene learned the bakery business in Brookings, SD, and at the age of 19 he bought the bakery in Stanley and operated it for 2 ½ years.

In 1950, he became a charter member of the Emmer Quinn Knights of Columbus Council in Stanley and later transferred to John F. Kennedy Council 1257. He was a KC for 61 years.

In 1955, Gene graduated from the Wisconsin State College of Eau Claire (now UW-EC). He was a life insurance agent with Equitable Life of Iowa (now Voya) for 48 years, earning both a CLU and CHFC designation during his career. He taught the CLU program for the American College for 13 years. In 1961, he married Connie Dingmann at Immaculate Conception Church.

Gene was active in the community his entire life. He founded two Toastmaster Clubs, served as a lector at Immaculate Conception Church for over 40 years, served on the Parish Council, was an Eau Claire Reserve Police Officer for 16 years, and served on several community boards. In 1968, he won the State KC Singles Bowling Championship, rolling a 703. He also found time to enjoy golfing, deer hunting and playing cribbage. He and Connie were 19 year members of the “Prayers for Peace” group.

Gene will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 years, Connie; four children, Christopher Aumann of Thousand Oaks, CA, Monica (Tom) Moriarty of Lake Elmo, MN, Anita (Chris) Sperry of Plymouth, MN, and Pete Aumann of Eau Claire; two brothers, Milton Aumann and Clayton (Bernadette) Aumann; sister, Arlene “Tena” (Gene) Lahr; nine grandchildren, Cameron and Lara Aumann, Marco Moriarty, Zachariah, Bridget and Deirdre Sperry, Noah, Colton and Rowena Aumann.
Gene was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Angela Aumann; parents, Walter and Margaret; brothers, John, James and Glenn Aumann.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April, 1, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave. Eau Claire with Father Donald Meuret officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to Mass at church on Wednesday. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum of Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
The family asks that memorials be directed to Friends of Sacred Heart Hospital, 900 W. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave. Eau Claire, WI 54701, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 825 E. Prospect St., Durand, WI, 54736.
