Schleswig-Holstein immigrant CHARLES STROHBEHN homesteaded in South Dakota with his parents perhaps for the five-year homesteading requirement. In 1885, he was census-listed as residing in Reinbeck, Iowa. Then, in 1886 in Davenport, Iowa, he married Schleswig-Holstein immigrant Tina Johanna Kruse. His marriage record listed him as a Humboldt, Iowa, farmer. Because he was not listed on his parents' March 1888 will, it is presumed that he died prior to that date.

Charles was the son of Detlef Strohbehn and Margaretha Dorothea Christina Dose Strohbehn who brought their five younger children to America in 1867 and went directly to Davenport, Iowa. There, they joined their three eldest sons, Wilhelm/William, Heinrich/Henry and Friedrich/Fritz, who had arrived the prior year and worked to earn funds to bring the parental family over.

Detlef and Margaretha farmed in Scott County, Iowa for three or so years; homesteaded in Alcester, Union County, South Dakota, for five years; and later retired to Reinbeck, Iowa. They chose Reinbeck because several of their children had settled there. The couple bought two side-by-side houses, lived in one and rented out the other for some retirement income.

Thus far (April 2017), no other information has surfaced concerning Charles and Tina Kruse Strohbehn.
