Oakland Cemetery's records show her name as Mary C. Goethe, although I have seen her name online spelled as Mary E. Goethe, Marie, and Maria. Her parents were Heinrich Christian Rampenthal and Friedericke Dorothea Straube. Mary (Rampenthal) Goethe was born September 19, 1863 in Grossfurra, Schwartzburg-Sondershausen, Thuringen, Germany.

She married Roland G. Goethe on April 2, 1882. His name before immigrating may have been Guenther Roland Goethe, but all other online sources including his obituary show him as Roland G. Goethe. His parents were Johann Karl Friedrich Gothe (I have no explanation for the change in spelling) and Johanna Frederica Dorothea Schabacher. He was also born in Grossfurra, Germany, but he and his family left before 1860, before Mary was born. The Goethe family appear on the 1860 US Federal Census for Florence Township, Stephenson County, Illinois. (They are on the 1870 and 1880 censuses for the same place, under the Gothe spelling.)

Mary and Roland Goethe had 10 children, all of whom lived full adult lives. They are:

1. Lenora Esther Goethe (1883-1958), who married William Conrad Koertner (1884-1918) on December 29, 1915, and William Herman Koch (1879-1947), who she married on April 22, 1920. Her obituary doesn't give her burial location. A Pearl City funeral home did the services so she might have been buried in Pearl City.

2. Arthur Henry Goethe (1885-1973), who married Mary Johnson (1890-1947).

3. Elmer Edward Goethe (1887-1969), who married Norma Meiers (1891-1975). Her obituary shows her maiden name as Meiers; other sources show it as Meier.

4.Sadie L. Goethe (1890 - 1990), who married Arthur J. Stephens (1885 - 1969).

5. Clara Edna Goethe (1892 - 1986), who married W. E. Barklow (18185-1962). I have no obituary for her, and could not determine where she was buried.

6. Jessie Goethe (1894-1974), who married Lewis Frederick Koch (1892 - 1956).

7. Leroy Donald "Roy" Goethe (1897-1982), who married Mabel Borger (1895 - 1968).

8. Harold Franklin Goethe (1990 - 1958), who married Emma Piefer (1902 - 1957).

9. Edith Goethe (1901-1964), who married Harvey Krahmer (1897 - 1975).

10. Lester Frederick Goethe (1904 - 1996), who married Mildred Sophia Koppein (1910 - 1974).
