The Belleville Telescope, June 29, 1933

Fred Amity Jourdan, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Jourdan, was born at Mattoon, Ill., on Nov. 14, 1891. He came to Belleville, Kan., when he was 19 years of age, and this has since been his home except for a short time spent in Utah. Fred was kind and congenial, and a friend to all. He received Christian baptism when a boy and was received in that connection into the Methodist church.

He was married on October 21, 1911, to Lavina Marshall at Belleville, Kan. Mr. Jourdan has been connected with the railroad since he was a boy. While here in Belleville he has been employed by the Rock Island as a switchman and as brakeman. He had not been in the best of health lately, but his condition was not thought to be serious. His death came suddenly on the morning of June 21, 1933. He had lived but 41 years, 7 months and 7 days.

He leaves a sorrowing wife; a daughter, Mrs. Arnold Hodgkinson; a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Jourdan, all of Belleville; also three sisters, Mrs. O.H. Van Natta of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. J.J. McCarthy of Parsons, Kan., and Mrs. Alice Gillis of Phoenix, Ariz.; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held at the home in Belleville on Friday afternoon and was conducted by the Rev. J.G. Roberts. Fellow workmen from the railroad were pall bearers. The body was laid to rest in the Belleville cemetery.
