Herbert W. Hausmann was born to William and Emma (Beyer) Hausmann on November 14, 1918, in Miltona Township. He was baptized and confirmed in the German language at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of rural Miltona. He attended rural schools and grew to manhood in the Miltona area. Herbert worked for area farmers before he met Violette Wark. They were married on October 10, 1941 at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Alexandria. The couple made their home near Parkers Prairie until August of 1942. They then moved to a farm near Kensington where they stayed until 1980 when they retired and moved to Alexandria. Herbert was active in Zion Lutheran Church of Hoffman and a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Alexandria. He also served on a variety of local and county boards. Herbert's hobbies were hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren and making wooden furniture and toys for his family.
Mr. Hausmann died July 11, 1990 at the Douglas County Hospital. He is survived by his wife Violette of Alexandria; five sons: Duane and wife Bonnie of Morris; Gerald and wife Julie of Kensington; Dale and wife Deb of Staples; David and wife Connie of Glenwood; Leroy and wife Pat of Frazee; brothers: Norman and Werner of Alexandria; sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Walter and Edwin and sister Elda Jantzen.
Funeral services were July 14, 1990 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Stephen Bruening officiating. Pallbearers were Thomas Hausmann, Terry Hausmann, Troy Hausmann, Shawn Hausmann, Darrin Hausmann, Chad Hausmann, Nathan Hausmann and Gabriel Hausmann.
Interment was at Kinkead Cemetery. Services directed by Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Home.
