Ken J. Baack, Sr., 74, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at All Saints Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Father Kevin Richter will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Scriptural wake service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Ken's family.

Kenneth Joseph Baack was born on June 21, 1940, in Remsen, Iowa, to Raymond and Olivia (Wilberding) Baack. When Ken was a young child, the family moved to Le Mars. Ken attended Gehlen Catholic School, graduating in 1958.

Ken and Mary Van Essen were united in marriage on May 7, 1966, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars.

Ken formed a partnership with Mike Gengler, and together they operated the Le Mars Body Shop.

In 1972 Ken took a position as a trackman with the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. He would work for the railroad for the next 14 years.

Following his career with the railroad, Ken started a painting business in Le Mars.

He also served with the Iowa National Guard for 18 years.

Mary passed away on February 21, 1980.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Le Mars Eagles. He loved feeding his squirrels, riding his bike around Le Mars, and walking the dog. He was an avid Green Bay Packers Fan.

Ken will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Beth Baack of Le Mars and her children Tom Miller and Jennie (Grant) Hanstein, and their children Mia and Ben; daughter, Kay (Mark) Ryan of Le Mars and their children Rose and Joseph; son, Kenny Baack, Jr. of Le Mars; sisters, Jane (Len) Rohde of Sheldon, IA, and Mary Pedersen of Des Moines, IA; a brother, Ron Baack of Le Mars; sisters-in-law, Barb Baack and Linda Baack of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; brothers, Bill and Ray; and a brother-in-law, Dick Pedersen.
