Obituary

Hazel J. Ellis, age 91, formerly of Pemberville, OH, most recently of Bowling Green, OH passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Wood Haven Health Care, Bowling Green.

She was born on July 27, 1923 in Limestone, OH to Louis and Elizabeth (Miklos) Geller. Hazel was one of eight children of Hungarian immigrants entering the United States through Ellis Island in the early 1900's.

On November 9, 1940 she married James E. Ellis in the Rocky Ridge parsonage, Rocky Ridge, OH and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2007.

Hazel was a graduate of Wayne School of Nursing; Chicago, IL. She was one of the first LPN"s to be hired at Wood County Hospital by Annabelle Kinney, Director of Nursing. Later she did private in home nursing for many years and later retired from Modine Manufacturing in 1972.

Her memberships included: Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pemberville and the Hungarian Club of Toledo.

She and her husband loved to fish on Lake Erie. After selling their boat, they fished at many of the local parks on the lake. She was honored by the Fish Ohio Program, State of Ohio for catching a twenty five inch walleye in 1986.

Her hand craft skills involved making over 30 quilts and was especially skilled at Hungarian embroidery, winning best of show in 2002 at the Pemberville Free Fair.

Hazel is survived by her daughter: Judy (John) Keiser of Pemberville, grandchildren: Brian (Jenifer Rogers) Keiser, Greg (Karen Geisbuhler) Keiser and
Christopher Keiser all of Pemberville and Anne Marie Robinson of Kent, WA, great grandchildren: Emily Keiser and Morgan Keiser both of Pemberville, MacKenzie Robinson of Kent, WA, sisters­in­law: Margaret Kerr of Bowling Green and Jenny Szuch of Titusville, FL, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, James; son, James Ellis III of Broomfield, CO,; brothers, Johnny (Edell) Geller, Louis (Helen) Geller; sisters, Mary (Mike) Harsanje, Elizabeth (Howard Hageman and Harold Miller) Miller, Esther (John Katonak and William Lorcher) Lorcher, Margaret (Billy) Turley and Irene (Milton Besso and John Westfall) Westfall; brothers-­in-­law, Sigmund (Dutch) Szuch, Steve Szuch and Melvin Kerr; and many nieces and nephews.
