Mrs. Amanda Maronde
Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda Bertha Meyer Maronde were conducted last Friday afternoon from the Evangelical United Brethren church in Marshall with the Rev. Jack Parriott officiating. Soloist was Mrs. Elmer Miller, accompanied by Mrs. Gerald Snyder. Pallbearers were Gordon Maronde, Marvin Maronde, Bernard Rohlik, Clarence Mohn, Melvin Paradis and John Wreath. Burial was in the Marshall cemetery. The Throop Mortuary was in charge.
Amanda Bertha was one of seven children born to Rudolph Adolph Theodore and Bertha Bender Meyer. She was born at Postville, Iowa, on June 21, 1877. She died at the Weiner Memorial hospital in Marshall on October 12, 1965, after a brief illness.
In the Postville, Iowa, German Lutheran church, Amanda Meyer was baptized in the Christian faith as an infant. She was later confirmed in her faith in the local church. In that community she attended school and grew to young womanhood.
On October 9, 1895, at the home of the bride at Davis Corner, Iowa, Amanda Meyer was united in marriage to Herman Fredrick Maronde, a young farmer. To this union were born four children, three of whom survive. In 1901, the Marondes moved from Iowa to their farm home in Stanley Township, Lyon county, Minn. Here they made their home until Mr. Maronde retired and they moved into Marshall in 1930.
Upon the death of his mother, the Marondes took their nephew, George Meyer, into their home and he became a member of the family.
Mrs. Maronde was a charter member of the Clifton Evangelical United Brethren church and was a member of that congregation for about 60 years. In the Clifton church she was quite active, having taught Sunday school and was a past president of the Ladies Aid. In the Marshall church of her denomination she was active in the women's work and was a member of the Women's Society of World Service. She had also been an active member of the WCTU and the Golden Agers Club.
Survivors include sons, Elmer of Wood Lake, Harold of Marshall, and Carl of Marshall and her foster son, George Meyer of Russell. One sister, Mrs. Peter Paradis and one brother, Ulrich Meyer, also survive along with 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Mr. Maronde died in 1951.
