Gary was a 1963 graduate of East Rowan High School; he received an Associate's Degree from Salisbury Business College in 1965. He was also a member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class. For the Town of Faith, he served as a member of the Faith Fire Department, Faith Jaycees, Faith Auxiliary Police and served as Judge of the Faith Election Board.
