Calvin Joseph Hauff, the son of Edwin and Sarah (Ketter) Hauff was born on September 18, 1920 in Watertown, South Dakota. He grew up in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1938. He joined the Army National Guard and served during World War II from 1941-1945. After his discharge, he attended UCLA and worked at Lockheed on the flight line. He married Betty Johnson in Van Nuys, CA. Calvin worked as a
master mechanic for many overseas contractors. He also taught Aviation Mechanics at LAVTI in Watertown.
He later married Gertrude Elmore Rowe in December of 1961. They moved to Watertown in 1963. Gertrude Hauff passed away in April of 1984. On January 4, 1989 he married Evelyn Crichton at Bakersfield, CA. Evelyn Crichton Hauff passed away on February 19, 1998. He was a Life Member of the VFW, and a former member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; one infant son; five brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his son, Bill (Brenda) Hauff of Haysville, KS; one daughter, Jeannie Hoss and her fiance' Chad Hansen of Wallace, SD; five stepchildren, Fran Schaefer, and Louise (Pete) McPeek of Watertown, Joan (Perry) Heaton of Gary, SD, Doreen (Richard) Tracy of Douglasville, GA, and Russ (Sue) Elmore of Diamond Bar, CA; sixteen grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.
