She was the daughter of Heinrich Mohrmann and Hille von Reeken.
Her birthdate was 1 February 1806 according to German records. However, 18 January 1806 was the date recorded by Sublime's Zion Lutheran Church.
On 5 October 1847, she boarded the Barque Franziska in Bremen, Germany with her husband Ahlert Heinrich "Henry" Schumaker and their children: Heinrich, Anna, Meta, Diedrich, Johann, and Eise.
After a voyage of 53 days, they arrived in Galveston, Texas on 27 November 1847.
The family settled in Colorado County where they were engaged in farming. Their neighbors were other German immigrant families with whom they would forge life-long connections: Bock, Dreyer, and Pelzer, including marriages between the four families.
On 11 April 1851, the family was blessed with another son, August Charles Schumaker, in Colorado County, Texas.
I could not find any more information about the family until the 1870 census, when Helena is living as a widow in Sublime, Lavaca County, Texas.
Helena Mary Mohrmann Schumaker died on 2 Nov 1878 in Sublime, Lavaca County, Texas. She was buried by the Zion Lutheran Church in Sublime and is recorded in their records. It is thought that Helena Mary is buried here in Geiger because her other family members are buried here. There are some old, unreadable headstones around some of her family members.
