Johann Ahlert "Henry" Schumaker was born about 1810 in Wildeshausen, Oldenburg, Germany. He was the son of Anna Gesine Schumacher.

On 5 October 1847, he boarded the Barque Franziska in Bremen, Germany with his wife Helena Mohrmann Schumaker and their children: Heinrich, Anna, Meta, Diedrich, Johann, and Eise.
After a voyage of 53 days, they arrived in Galveston, Texas on 27 November 1847.

The family settled in Colorado County where they were engaged in farming. Their neighbors were other German immigrant families with whom they would forge life-long connections: Bock, Dreyer, and Pelzer, including marriages between the four families.

On 11 April 1851, the family was blessed with another son, August Charles Schumaker, in Colorado County, Texas.

I could not find any more information about the family until the 1870 census, when Henry's wife, Helena, is living as a widow. Helena is living in Sublime, Lavaca County, Texas.

Johann Ahlert Schumaker died sometime between 1851-1870 in either Colorado County or Lavaca County, Texas. It is thought that Henry is buried here in Geiger because his wife and other family members are buried here. There are some old, unreadable headstones around some of his family members.
