Henry Pfaffenroth, 59, a machinist employed at the Wisconsin Axle Company, was found dead in the gas-filled kitchen of his home at 309 Grant street about 3:30 o'clock this morning.

Dr. G. A. Steele, county coroner, said following an investigation that Pfaffenroth had taken his own life. No motive for the act was known.

He was observed by his daughter, Mrs. Harry Kimball, about 2:30 o'clock this morning when he went into the kitchen to get a drink of water. He had retired about 10 o'clock in good health and good spirits.

Mrs. Pfaffenroth was awakened about 4:30 o'clock by the odor of gas escaping from the kitchen. She found Pfaffenroth overcome by the gas pouring from jets to the stove oven. City police attempted to revive Pfaffenroth with an inhalator without success.

He was born at Yagodna, Polyana, state of Saratov, Russia September 25, 1883. He came to this country in 1892, living first at Pine Island, Orange County, New York. After living there seven years, he moved to Oshkosh and had resided here since that time.

He was a member of the Christ Lutheran church and was a deacon of that parish. He was also a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood.

He married Miss Wilhelmina Hildebrandt in this city Oct. 22, 1910. She and four children survive. The children are: Mrs. Albert Lund and Mrs. Armin Blank of Neenah, Mrs. Harry Kimball of this city and Seaman First Class Carlton H. Pfaffenroth of Farragut, Idaho; three brothers, Conrad and George Pfaffenroth of Oshkosh and Jacob Pfaffenroth of Dallas, Tex., ; three sisters, Mrs. Phillip Goetz and Mrs. Alfred Ziebell of Oshkosh and Mrs. Chester Garrity of Menominee, Mich. and two grandchildren, Roger and Jerry Lund of this city.

Funeral arrangements have not been made and will be announced later.
