H. Jean Duy, 81, succumbed to her nine-year battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her life, Ralph, her husband of 62 years, and her loving family. Jean was born April 26, 1924, to Earl and Jessie Bryant VonOhlen.Meeting Ralph at the young age of 15, she continued to date him until her graduation from East Aurora High School. They married at Camp Crowder, Missouri on November 28, 1942, while Ralph served in the war and Jean set up their home in Aurora. Doing her part during the war, she went to work for Elgin Watch Company and later Barber Greene. Later, Jean worked side by side with Ralph at Duy's Shoes in Sandwich. After getting her Realtor license, Jean went to work for Doss Realty, the Census Bureau and finally for Temple University as an interviewer for research. However, Jean's greatest pride came from her volunteer work. Jean worked tirelessly as a Paraprofessional for the Crisis Line of The Fox Valley, volunteering 2,842 hours over a ten-year period. A life long member of the Annunciation Church, Jean worked on numerous committees for The Altar and Rosary Society for Annunciation.Jean was preceded in death by her father, Earl VonOhlen; mother, Jessie VonOhlen; brother, William VonOhlen; and two sons, Larry Duy and Thomas Duy.She is survived by her husband, Ralph; daughter, Robin (David) Olson of Wilmette; sons, Tod (Karla) Duy of Sandwich, Timothy (Lori) Duy of Stillman Valley and Greg (Kathy) Duy of Aurora; and a brother, Burton (Lucille) VonOhlen of Elburn. Surviving grandchildren include, Nicholas Olson, Alex Olson, Tom Felstead, Elliott Duy, Austin Duy, Alex Duy, Adam Duy, Ryan Duy, Jean Nichole Duy and Patrick Duy. Great grandchildren include, Ronin Schmidt, Aurora Schmidt, Thomas Duy Felstead and Natalie Marie Duy.Co-celebrants, Father David Palmatier and Father Bede Stocker will conduct a Memorial Mass on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, 10 AM at theAnnunciation Church of Aurora. Cremation is being handled by the Cremation Society of Illinois. In lieu of flowers, please direct you kind memorial donations to Annunciation Church, Marmion Academy or Vista Hospice.
