Don was born October 7, 1949 in Lancaster, Ohio the son of Norma Lynn Ortman of Thornville and the late William E. Ortman.
Don confessed to God his faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, as a child at Trinity United Church of Christ, and the same recently with family and friends, Clark and Tim.
Don was a graduate of Sheridan High School Class of 1967, and The Ohio State University. He had a long career in electrical engineering. His last employment was with Lockheed Martin in Orlando, Florida. He loved fishing, ham radio, and playing the fiddle and mandolin.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene A. Karalus Ortman, whom he married in 1999; a brother, Gary (Kathy) Ortman; sisters, Connie (Gary) Hursey and Karen (Dale) Factor, nieces and nephews, Matt (Jen) Ortman, Brian (Lisa) Ortman, Ty (Denita) Hursey, Ross (Kelsey) Hursey, Kacey (Jordan) Unternaher, Logan (Aaron) Bates and Devan Factor; several great niecesis and nephews; his mother-in-law, Helen Karalus; and special friends, Clark and Kim Evans and Sandi Vennel.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset and one hour prior to the service, which will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2015 at the funeral home with Jason Cole officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery in Thornville.
