Philip 'Craig' Diehl
Jan. 20, 1952 – Nov. 4, 2013
Philip "Craig" Diehl, 61, Altoona, passed away peacefully Monday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness.
He was born in Johnstown, son of the late Wesley H. and Esther M. (Bismark) Diehl. He married Donna Nagle on Oct. 25, 1986, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont.
Surviving are his wife of 27 years; a son, Kevin and fiancee, Natalie Klobetanz, and their children, Cierra Lynn and Rylan Anthony Francis Diehl; and two sisters: Linda Brooks of Philadelphia and her children, Donetta, IJ and Christina, and Judy Berkheimer in Ohio and her children, Denny and Bob.
He was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law: Dennis Berkheimer, Bill Brooks, James Nagle and Ronnie Nagle; and his wife's parents: Frank and Ethel (Schenk) Nagle.
Craig graduated from Portage High School and then served as a medic in the U.S. Air Force in Florida during the Vietnam War before returning home to work for AMED. He was appointed executive director of AMED in 1981 and had recently retired. He had the utmost respect for his AMED employees and his board of directors, past and present, all of whom he called his friends.
Craig dearly loved Cierra, his "Baby Doll," and Rylan, his "Little Buddy," and enjoyed every moment he shared with them. He was truly a gentle man with a heartfelt love and appreciation for his family, his Nagle family, his AMED family and his many friends.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11th St., Altoona. Committal will be at the convenience of the family.
The family requests that donations be made to AMED, Park Hills Country Club or Allegheny Healthcare Staffing for their UPMC Altoona Sitter Service in Craig's memory.
Arrangements are by Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville.
