Baptized as Hermannus Henricus Antonius Winkes on 19 Feb 1829 at the Probsteikirche St Vitus in Meppen, Hannover, Germany. His birth was on 17 February. He learned his trade of bookbinder with my Hämmerer ancestor in Crapendorf/Cloppenburg in Oldenburg. He married Lisette Ellerkamp in Essen, Oldenburg in 1857. Went back to Meppen to practice his trade and had a child there named Anton Heinrich Bernard Winkes in 1858. Then back to her hometown where they had another son named Johann Friedrich Anton Winkes in 1860. He died a year later. The wife dies in 1863 and Anton then married my relation Johanna Christina Henrietta Hämmerer in 1863. They had a daughter named Augusta Antonia Johanna in 1865. In October of that year they boarded the Barque Anna to come to Balimore.
