Elfriede Kumitsch Washney

Mrs. Elfriede Kumitsch Washney, age 75, of Jonesboro, was born in Poland on April 29, 1940 and she passed away on June 26, 2015.
She lived in Poland during the war years and lost her father to the war. Her family and she relocated to West Germany in 1952. She married her husband 56 years ago. Mrs. Washney became a Naturalized Citizen in 1976.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Douglas Washney.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen; children, Jonathan Washney of Morrow, Michael (Adrienne) Washney of McDonough, Sharon (Allison) Washney of Decatur; siblings, Herbert Kumitsch of Germany, Lillian Schorning of Germany, Ursula Neujahr-Horn of Germany; grandchildren, Christopher Washney, Jordan Washney and Rebecca Washney.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in the chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
