Mr. Elbert Clyde “Al” Richardson, 79, of Greenville, passed away July 4, 2015, at home. Visitation will be 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Leland-Stoneville Cemetery with Rev. Ray Tidwell officiating.

Al was born to Jim Lee and Lora Barnhill Richardson on December 5, 1935, in the Brittons Neck community of Marion County, South Carolina. He graduated from Brittons Neck High School in 1953.

He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marines and served in Korea during the final months of the Korean War. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA he met his first wife, Sarah, and was married in 1957.

Al moved to Greenville in 1970, taking a job in sales at Delta Metal Forming. The family followed in 1971. He also worked at Southern Fasteners and New Dixie Fasteners.

Before his health declined, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim Lee and Lora Barnhill Richardson; wife, Betty Barnett Richardson of Greenville; and brothers, Gordon Richardson and Leon Richardson both of Brittons Neck, South Carolina.

Al is survived by his daughters, Kathy Kallenbach (Randy) of Connell, WA, Janet Steele (Scott) of Greenville, MS, and Sandy Kelly (Mike) of Memphis, TN; son, John Richardson (Cindy) of Marion, NC; grandchildren, Jamie Richardson of PA, Thomas Cooksey (Stephanie), Teresa Kallenbach, and Joey Kallenbach all of Connell, WA, Rob Thornton of Memphis, Allison Thornton of Greenville, MS, Michael Kelly, Ben Kelly, and Jon Kelly (Kelsey) all of Memphis, TN, and Chelsea Richardson of Marion, NC; Step-children, Debra, Beverly, Michael, Ricky, and Brenda; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Nora Lee Hanna of Myrtle Beach, SC and Christine Poston (Kenny) of Spartanburg, SC; brother, Tommy Richardson (Barbara) of Maryland; and mother of his children, Sarah Richardson of Memphis, TN.

The family would like to send special thanks to Grace Community Hospice for their ongoing care and friendship that they provided.
