Caroline Ottney is the daughter of Anton "Anthony" Ottney (nee Otteni) and Mary Ann Riedling.

FAMILY NAME
Over the years, there have been many different spellings of the family name. The original spelling, found on German records and signatures on early land transactions in the United States, was OTTENI. The spellings used today in the U.S. are: OTTENI, OATNEY, OTNEY, and OTTNEY. All trace back to Urloffen, Germany to Hans Georg Otteni.

Caroline's father and most of his male descendants use the OTTNEY spelling.

OBITUARY
The Amherst Bee, Williamsville, Erie County, New York, Thursday, 5 Nov 1903

MRS. MARCOS BINNER.
A largely attended funeral was held at Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic church, Sunday, over the remains of Mrs. Marcus Binner, whose death occurred last Friday at 3:30 o'clock A. M., after suffering about one year from cancer. Her age wag 49 years.

Mrs. Binner was a devoted mother and an earnest Christian woman and her death is mourned by a large circle of friends.

She is survived by her husband and seven children-Leo, Louise, Caroline, Helen and Edward at home, Mrs. Helmer of Buffalo and Robert of Cheektowaga; her mother, Mrs. Ottney, two brothers, Joseph Ottney of Michigan, John Ottney of Clarence, and four sisters, Mrs. Goetz of Buffalo, Mrs. Laurence Demmert, Mrs. Florence Fruehauf, and Mrs. John Binner of Amherst.
