A former resident of the Town of Unity, James Chapman, 86, died at a hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday evening last week at 11 o’clock, several hours after suffering a stroke at the home of his son, George, where he had made his home the past 12 years.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 P.M. at the Unity Methodist Church with the Rev. F. J. Smith officiating. Burial was in the Unity cemetery. The body reposed at the Swarthout Funeral Home, Spencer, until noon on Sunday when it was taken to the church.

Mr. Chapman came to the Unity area when a small boy, and lived on a farm just west of the Town of Unity until moving to Des Moines.

He was married twice. Surviving are two sons, George of Des Moines and Ralph of Greenville, Texas.

He was predeceased by both wives and one son, and an older brother Joseph (Memorial# 140976449).
