Luella V. (Garms) Rink was born to her loving parents Johann Herman "Herman" and Marie Anna (Krumland) Garms on Tuesday August 20, 1918 believed to have taken place at Columbus, Platte County Nebraska. Luella appeared to have had four older half siblings. Luella also had two young sisters and a brother. I believe Luella was raised around the Columbus area. My research found no information on Luella's schooling. Luella was united in marriage to Herbert Rink on Sunday December 9, 1945 at Scribner, Dodge County, over the years of their marriage they were blessed with three daughters and two sons. Herbert J. A. Rink was born on Tuesday May 2, 1916 to Emil John and Friedericka W. M. (Moeller) Rink of Hooper, Dodge County. Herb attended elementary school district 16 and was a 1933 graduate of Hooper High. Herb served in World War II as an Army sergeant. The farm where Luella and Herb raised their children was about halfway between 13 and 14 on County Rd. N on the north side of the road. In the fifties the address was route 1 Ames, Dodge County, the address now shows as 1334 County Rd. N with coordinates of GPS 41.553582, -96.667765. There is now a huge swine farm to the east of this farm. Herb used my father's grain windrower one year, I drove the tractor with Herb standing on the windrower axle keeping watch on the grain move on the canvas. I rode in their family "51" Pontiac with other neighbor kids to confirmation class in the late fifties. Herb liked smoking his Lucky Strikes straight cigarettes. Herb would toss his smoked cigarette out the small driver window, in the dark a ball of sparks would show up behind the car on the country road. I recall Herb taking a movie at our elementary school picnic, I was in that movie, hopefully Luella and Herb's children still have the movie. Herb's family later purchased a new blue "60" Ford. I rode one evening in that car coming home from Scribner seeing the snow coming down in the view of the headlights. Herb and Luella were members of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Scribner. Sadly Herb passed on Sunday August 26, 1992 at Fremont, Dodge County at the age of 76 years, 3 months, 25 days which does not include his last day, he lived a total of 27,876 days. Sadly Luella passed on Wednesday January 3, 2001 at Scribner at the age of 82 years, 4 months, 14 days which does not include her last day, she lived a total of 30,087 days. Luella and Herb were interred in the Scribner Municipal Cemetery. Luella and Herb's information was provided from researching many resources and my memory. This biography was created as an honor to Luella and Herb by a childhood neighbor Loren R. I believe all lives matter, even the lives of those who have passed. Many details are still missing from their lives, if you have any more details I will be happy to edit the additional information into this biography. Please send your info to me at my email address [email protected]

Erika is not listed on the 1910 Census, she may have passed very young.
*Half siblings mother would have been Bertha Garms (1878 - 1916)
