Obituary:
LIBERTY, Ind. - Cecil H. Potters, age 80, of Liberty, died Friday August 7, 2015, at Reid Health. Cecil was born August 28, 1934, in Carter County, Kentucky, to William Robert and Daisy Gertrude King Potters. In his youth, his time was spent in Eastern Kentucky and Indiana. Cecil spent several years dairy farming and building farm fence in Union County. He worked for 28 years at Design and Manufacturing in stamping and silk screen before retiring. Cecil was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Richmond. Cecil was well known in the area with his brothers, playing lead guitar (along with the banjo and fiddle) with the Potters Brothers Band, playing country and gospel music at various venues in Indiana and Ohio, and later in life at church and area nursing homes. He loved the outdoors and was an avid and skilled outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed fishing in area lakes and streams with his small boat. Cecil also enjoyed hunting (gun and archery) rabbit, quail, and the occasional mushroom. He loved working with his hands and became skilled with automobiles, woodworking, and what he thought was necessary for the household. Cecil and Lola had a big garden that they always shared with family and friends. He enjoyed bowling, euchre, and helped his sons through their baseball ventures from Little League through high school. Cecil and Lola enjoyed their wildlife neighbors watching the hummingbirds, squirrels, and all of the area critters. He greatly enjoyed his family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his church. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lola F. VanWinkle Potters, to whom he was married on April 12, 1952, by Rev. Frank Pagett; sons, Curtis D. Potters of Connersville, Indiana, and Cecil D. Potters and Donald R. (Jill) Potters, both of Richmond; brothers, Ben Potters and Lovell (Mildred) Potters, both of Connersville, Indiana, and Robert Potters of Richmond; sister, Dixie Alice Gentry of College Corner, Indiana; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; tons of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Faye Holbrook and Patty Mae Potters. Visitation for Cecil H. Potters will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
