He was born August 7, 1919, near Clyde, MO, in Gentry County, the son of John H. and Veronica L. (Klaas) Derks. Vince served in the Pacific Theater during World War II at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, and New Guinea.
In November 1945 after the war, he married Pauline Meyer and began their 67 year marriage. He was trained as an auto mechanic using the GI Bill and retired from that profession in 1989. He worked in David City, NE and Clarinda, IA, and in 1951 moved to Maryville to work and raise his family. There he was employed by Curnutt, Wilkinson, and finally Boyles Motors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Pauline Meyer Derks; sisters: Leona McQueen, Marcella Frans, Maragruette Derks; brothers: Raymond Derks, John Derks, Joseph Derks; and grandson Matthew Mendoza.
Surviving Vincent are his son: Paul (Becky) Derks, Bellevue, NE; daughters: Connie (Roger) Stucki, Kansas City, MO amd Jo Beth Betts, Waynesville, MO; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; his brother Donald (Marilyn) Derks, Hobson, Montana; sisters: Mary Walter, St. Joseph, Esther Schmidt, Cumming, GA; brother-in-law Norbert Meyer, Iowa City, IA and sister-in-law Mary Ann Meyer, Stanberry, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. The visitation will be followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 AM Friday, August 14, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Chuch, Maryville, with Burial to follow in St Mary's Cemetery, Maryville.
