Bernice E. Powell, 92, Converse, died at 4:20 a.m., on Sunday, August 9, 2015 in Brookdale Senior Living Center. Born in Grant Co., IN, Bernice is the daughter of the late Alvin and Edna (Devore) Wimmer. She married Dale L. Powell on December 24, 1945; he preceded her in death on October 13, 2006.
Bernice graduated from Swayzee High School and went on to earn her associate’s degree from Marion Business College. She farmed with her husband and had also worked at Bell Telephone in the business office and I & M Electric in the credit department. She was a member of Chapel Pike Wesleyan Church, where she was a Sunday School and Jr. Church teacher. She loved to crochet and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Tom) Horner and Pam (Gary) Minnich, both of Converse; grandchildren and their families, Geoff (Nilah) Horner and Cheo, Rio, and Mylia, Nancy, (Darren) Campbell and Kevin and Tucker, Ryan Horner, and Amy (Andy) Bautz and Awan, Zadyn, Tad, and Samiah; sister-in-law, Eloise Newhouse, and brother-in-law, Earl (Lorene) Miller; special friend, Lois Starkey, and cat, Sophie.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice was preceded in death by her sister, Carmen Wimmer Miller. Services for Bernice will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. Marion, IN 46952 with Darren Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Converse Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 5-8 p.m., on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the funeral home.
