Meat-Firm Officer Dies at 57
Leonard F. Broecker, a vice-president of Klarer of Kentucky, a meat-packing firm, died about 5 p.m. yesterday while undergoing open-heart surgery at Children's Hospital. He was 57.
Broecker had been ill several weeks. He entered Norton Memorial Infirmary August 8 and was transferred Friday to Children's, the only Louisville hospital equipped to do open-heart surgery.
Broecker had been associated with Klarer all his business life. He was the grandson of its founder, the late Theodore Klarer. Broecker's father, the late Henry A. Broecker, headed the firm for many years after Klarer's death.
A Louisville native, he was a member of the Pendennis Club, Louisville Boat Club, Louisville Rotary Club, Phi Delta Theta social fraternity, Louisville Purchasing Agents Association, and a former member of the board of vestrymen at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. He was a graduate of Kentucky Military Institute and had attended the University of Kentucky.

The body is at Pearson's, 1310 S. Third. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Church. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.
