Named himself. Harper. He had one sister who stayed in England. He came to America 1893, at age 28 to New York City, where he worked for ten months for a Charles A. Reed. In 1894 he left Mr. Reed and went to Newport, Rhode Island and worked for a Mr. Lorilard Spencer. In 1894 he and Bertha Lee were married in Attleboro, Massachusetts and Irene Bertha Jackson was born on April 14, 1895.

John H. Jackson was a coachman for Mr. George and Amelia Olive Sheffield of Attleboro, Massachusetts. In 1897 with the Sheffield's, John, Bertha, Irene and Amelia Jackson went on a trip to England, landing at Torquay (Torbay), England. The Sheffield's and John Jackson then went to Liverpool, where the Sheffield's and John drove through eastern England back to Torquay where his wife and daughters were waiting.
