Mrs. Ludmilla Joan (Benda) Chidester, 98, formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., died May 10, 2012, at Meadowview Manor, Bridgeport, W.Va.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1913, in Wendel, W.Va., the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Martiska Benda.

Mrs. Chidester was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, W.Va. She was also an officer and active member of the Parkersburg Women's and Garden Clubs.

Surviving are one sister, Helen Benda Marra and her husband, Louis "Jiggs," of Flemington, W.Va.; stepdaughter, Bonnie Chidester Jarrett of Fairmont, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Cindy Jarrett Higgins and her husband, Andy, of Dayton, Ohio, Michael Jarrett and his wife, Candy, of Fairmont, W.Va., Carleton E. Chidester and his wife, Jill, of Vienna, W.Va., and Garrick Chidester and his wife, Misty, of Anderson, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl W. Chidester; brothers, John, Paul, Andrew and Daniel Benda; and sisters, Pauline Benda, Julia Pollard, Elizabeth Benda and Anna Whitescaver.

The family would like to express its appreciation to her nieces; Mrs. Judith Dolan and her husband, John, of Stonewood, W.Va., and Mrs. Susanne Graeber and her husband, Mark, of Bridgeport, W.Va., for the love and assistance they provided their Aunt Ludy during her final years in Bridgeport.

Friends will be received at Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main St., Bridgeport, W.Va., on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be celebrated in the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Dale C. Waters presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery, Bridgeport, W.Va.
