Anna M. Geske
June 12, 1931 ~ August 26, 2015 (age 84)

Anna was mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, wife, colleague and friend. She was known for her keen mind, sophistication, encouraging words, and loving heart. We will miss her dearly.

Anna was born, raised, married, educated and started her teaching career in Iowa. She moved, with her husband David, to live in Boston where her miracle daughter, Elise, was born. The family moved to Ithaca NY where Anna would live for the majority of her life and begin a rewarding 33 year long career at Cornell University. In Ithaca she gave birth to her son, Matthew, and enjoyed several years of family life. Tragically her husband passed away in 1967 and she was left alone to raise two children, which she did remarkably well.

She remarried in the mid-seventies, and added to her family her husband Lee, and stepchildren Cindy, Mark, Marylee and Jennifer. She continued to remain close to all her relatives in the Mid-West, her dear parents, Herman and Viola and her siblings, Herman, Dorothea and Arthur plus their wonderful spouses and children. Later in life she was blessed with grandchildren, including three that live in Idaho, Andrew, David and Champion.

She had a successful career as a lecturer, and running the Melon Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in the Humanities at Cornell University and then as the Executive Director of the Cornell Council for the Arts. She had a passion for the arts, be that music, the visual arts or dance. She was an active member of the arts community for her whole career including supporting and encouraging hundreds of artists, scholars and colleagues. Throughout her career and Into her retirement she served on numerous arts related Boards.

Anna experienced remarkable travel adventures to Europe and in her 70’s to Kenya and Tanzania with Musicians for World Harmony. She had wonderful friends in Ithaca, including Bea, Jane and Mickey, to name a few, that she attended countless, plays, operas and fine arts performances with. She had a lifetime connection to the Lutheran Church and lived out her Christian life by serving others.

She moved to Boise, Idaho in 2011 to be with family and was served by her personal assistant and faithful companion Andy and numerous care givers for four years. She kept her keen mind, and warm smile until the very end, touching all who her knew her with her love.

Anna we will miss you, may your memory be eternal.
