My 3rd great grandfather, Johann Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Koehler was born 3 April 1820 in Prussia/Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1882 with his wife, Ernestine Louise Maria Muhme, my 3rd great grandmother, and several of their single and married children and grandchildren aboard the Ship ELBE. He was listed as a ship owner on his daughter's christening record. He was known by the name Friedrich and his wife went by the name Louise. From a lookup on Prussian/Lithuanian Facebook group for Johann Friedrich Koehler's birth record:
"You can find the church records of Kappe at Archion.de under the parish of „Groß Dölln" (Templin).
I found there on image 22:
Johann Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Koehler, born 3 April 1820, baptism 19 April 1820, F: Schiffer (skipper) Johann (?) Christian Koehler M: Caroline née Ziegler, place of residence: Cappe
And on image 27:
Luise Ernestine Muhm, born 1 Oct 1820, baptism 27 Oct 1820; F: Schiffer und Büdner (skipper and cottager) Johann Christian Muhm M: Maria Catharine née Muhm; place of residence: Cappe"
NOTE: "Kappe" not "Cappe" is the usual spelling of Kappe, Brandenburg, Family tradition states that he was a Bergermeister in Germany/Prussia, and that the family fled their homes and left for the United States. They had political differences with the German Kaiser who was trying to conscript their sons into the German military. Friedrich married Louise Muhme about 1845 in Prussia/Germany. They had 7 children, 2 whose names are unknown:
1. Therese Louise Marie Kohler, born 9 Apr 1846, married Christian Gottfried Wilhelm Neumann (my great-great grandparents)
2. Karl Kohler, born about 1845-1847 married Mathild Zerner (or Matilda). Karl and Matilda had children: Fritz, Otto, Emma, Charles.)
3. Gustav "Gus" Kohler, born about 1849, married Hulda Mueller
4. Robert Kohler, born about 1854 married Bertha Obst.
5. Maria Luise Therese Koehler, born 1859 Prussia, died 6 March 1864 in Nakel, Wirsitz, Prussia (now Poland)

Friedrich was struck and killed by a train in Cleveland and a coroner's inquest record exists with additional details of the accident.
