Rose S. Juhnke, 101, of Pierre, died Saturday, August 5, 2006, Maryhouse, Pierre. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at Feigum-VanLith Funeral Home, Pierre. Funeral service will be August 10, 2006, Lutheran Memorial Church, Pierre. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Pierre.

Rose S. Juhnke was born in Anamoose, ND on January 10, 1905. She was the fourth child of Sebastian and Rosina (Reimnitz) Schoessler, both of whom emigrated from Germany. In 1905, the Schoessler family moved to Reliance, SD, where they operated a general merchandise store. Rose graduated from Reliance High School in 1922. She also attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

Rose worked for the War Manpower Commission during World War II starting in 1941. After the War, she continued this same work but under the auspices of the South Dakota Employment Service. She retired in 1970, as the regional manager of the Pierre, S.D. office. After retirement she enjoyed several years of foreign travel.

In 1967, she married Arthur Juhnke, who was the administrative assistant to South Dakota Senator Francis Case. This marriage was short lived due to Arthur's untimely death in 1968.

Rose was a member of Lutheran Memorial Church where she had taught Sunday school and served on the Church Council. She was also a member of the Chamberlain Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister and two brothers.

Rose did not have children. Her immediate family consists of her two nephews, Don H Schoessler of Rochester, NY and Richard J. Schoessler of Pierre, and their wives, children and grandchildren, and a stepson Delford Juhnke and family of Vivian.
