Van Vleck, born in Minnesota, worked as a South Bay Unified School District teacher until her retirement in 1982.
She was a member of the San Diego Catholic Worker, the Sacred Heart Parish and Prayer Group, the Coronado Women's Club, Friends of the San Diego Symphony, the American Association of University Women and Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by two sons, James and Paul Van Vleck of Coronado, two daughters, Sherry Van Vleck-Kelleher of Virginia and Sister Jeannette Van Vleck of San Diego, a brother, James Medved of Newport Beach and five grandchildren.
A memorial mass was held Dec, 31 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Coronado. Her ashes will be scattered at sea. The family suggests donations be made to the San Diego Hospice or the San Diego Catholic Worker, PO Box 127244, San Diego, 92112.
