Darwin Theodore "Yut" Tobias Sr., 82, of 4636 Upper Road, Shamokin, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, in Geisinger-Shamokin Area Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
He was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Gowen City, a son of Theodore Monroe Tobias and Catherine Engle.
He attended Shamokin schools.
On July 22, 1983, he married Donna Kay Hubler, who passed away May 10, 2008.
He first worked as a miner, and later as a stockman for Arrow Shirt. He worked many other jobs after his retirement.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gowen City, the Independence, Rescue, West End, East Cameron and Brady Fire companies, the Saint Francis Home Association and the West Cameron Nimrods.
He was an avid Philadelphia and Penn State fan.
He is survived by son and daughters, Darwin T. Tobias Jr. and his wife, Sherri, of Trevorton Road, Cynthia Sopp and her husband, Jerry, of Shamokin, and Donna Wisloski and her husband, Greg, of Coal Township; four grandchildren, Jenna Sopp, of Allentown, Darwin Tobias III and his wife, Krisa, of Mount Carmel, Jonathan Tobias and his wife, Erica, of Elysburg, and Christopher Tobias and his companion, Alissa Dewalt, of Berlin, New Hampshire; two great-grandsons, Gage and Grayson Tobias; five stepchildren, Cheryl Weikel and her husband, Rick, Cindy Price and her husband, Richard, Gail Moore and her husband, John, Wendy McCain and her husband, Albert, and Dawn Paczkowski and husband, Dennis; a brother, Jack Tobias, of Coal Township; and a sister, Linda Brown, of Shamokin; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Darwin was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Shadle, Margaret Reiprich, Beatrice Weikel, Edna Schleig, Eleanor Mihal, Shirley Taplin, Dorothy Russel and Fara Deminski; a stepson, Jerry Wetzel; and a grandson, Dennis Paczkoski.
A funeral service was held at Farrow Funeral Directors, 240 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin, with the Rev. David Byerly officiating. Burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Gowan City.
