He was born March 6, 1921, in McLeansboro to Thomas and Anna Karcher. He married Irma Schilling on Aug. 28, 1946. She passed away Oct. 19, 2011, in Peoria.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include four children, Ken Karcher, Jan Karcher, Anita (Bill) Brown and Debbie (Dan) Thompson; four grandchildren, Annah and Karsten Brown, Renna (Stephen) Brunton and Hayley Thompson; and one sister, Odelia Karcher.
Jake was a World War II Army veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for CILCO for 23 years, retiring in 1983.
Jake was employed as a funeral attendant at Remmert Funeral Home since 1996.
He was a member of St. Monica's and the Knights of Columbus.
Jake was a jack of all trades, enjoyed gardening and loved to make people smile.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
