Carol J. Flanagan, 80 of Albion, NE, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, NE.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, NE with Rev. David Frerichs officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

Carol JaNean Flanagan, daughter of Julius Johannes Amandus and Vivian Irene (Mills) Freese, was born February 10, 1934 in Albion, NE. She was baptized on May 31, 1936 and confirmed on May 16, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. She attended country school west of Albion, NE and graduated from Albion High School with Normal Training in 1951. She began teaching in the fall of 1951 at Boone County District #89. In 1968, after many years of participating in summer and night classes, she received a bachelor's degree from Wayne State College and a master's degree in Elementary Education in 1976.

On June 1, 1954, Carol was united in marriage to Duane Joseph "Mike" Flanagan at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. She taught at other various rural Boone County schools before beginning her 37 year career at Albion Public Schools in 1957 for a total of 42 years. She influenced the education of more than 900 students before retiring in 1994.

Carol was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the Zion Sew Happy Mission Quilters. She enjoyed spending time reading, working crossword puzzles, working in her flower garden, growing many types of lilies and quilting with the ladies at church. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and following her grandchildren's events.

She is survived by her son: Joe (Kathryn) Flanagan of Albion; four grandchildren: Adam (McKenzie) Flanagan of Lincoln, Seth (Amy) Flanagan of Albion, Kelly Flanagan and Kraig Flanagan, both of Lincoln; two great-grandchildren: Turner and Bergan Flanagan of Lincoln; two sisters: Dorothy (Ray) Olson of Albion and Karen Cline of Omaha; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Mike in 1998.
