Aloy Balster was born April 17, 1914 on a farm near Iona, Minnesota to Joseph and Englina Schoo Balster. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Columba School in Iona. He and his brother, Bill farmed the family farm for many years. Aloy and his family Frank, Bernard, Bill and Josephine played in several bands from 1930 until 1954 and Aloy played the trombone. He retired from farming in 1985. He and his brother, Frank had been living on the farm. Aloy was a patient at Sioux Valley Hospital for six days before he passed away there on March 19, 1994 at the age of 79. Aloy was a member of St. Columba Church all of his life. He enjoyed music, playing cards, baseball, fishing and playing pool.

Survivors include two brothers, Frank of Iona and Bernard and his wife, Betty of Slayton, and three sisters, Mary, Mrs. Tom Clark of Dundee, Josephine Neuheisel of Herreid, SD and Lucy, Mrs. Leon Thooft of Tyler, MN; and several nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, John Norbert and Bill and one sister, Anna Schaffer.

Funeral services on Tuesday, March 22, 1994 at 10:30am at St. Columba Church in Iona, MN with Fr. Gregory Leif officiating. The organist was Sharon Lais. The song leader was Theresa Ford. Pallbearers were Rich Lanners, Lawrence Halbur, Frank Spartz, Paul Ruppert, Tom McCormick and Pat Kremer. Internment at St. Columba Cemetery, Iona, MN
