Charles Parker Dempsey, 86, of Orangeburg, SC, passed away October 10, 2015 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC. He was the husband of Doris Dean Dempsey. Parker was born a son to the late James R. Dempsey and Florrie Brickle Dempsey, and grew up in Cope, SC.

He had retired from Dempsey Wood Products and Stone Container Corp. After serving in the U. S. Air Force, Parker joined P. L. Dean Lumber Company and later formed Dean-Dempsey Lumber Company with his brother-in-law, Robert Dean. They expanded the business over the years, and sold the company to Stone Container in 1984. Parker later joined his son Ronny Dempsey at Dempsey Wood Products in Orangeburg, SC where he continued to work until his retirement. He had served on numerous boards over the years including, First National Bank in Orangeburg and the South Carolina Forestry Association. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he had served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons and the Board of Trustees.

Survivors include his wife of the home, sons: Randy Dempsey (Terri), Ronny Dempsey (Terry); daughters: Jan Dempsey Rizzo (Peter), Jill Dempsey Staley (Dean); grandchildren: Parker Dempsey, Jr. (Nacole), Adrianne Dempsey, Carol Lyn Dempsey, Peyton Rizzo, Doris Staley, Thacker Staley, Rebekah Irwin (Luke), Josh Dempsey, Ashley Dempsey, Susan Dempsey and Caleb Dempsey.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at First Baptist Church, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Ryan Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Dukes Harley Funeral Home in Orangeburg.
