Charles Keil, prominent East Main street hardware merchant, died at his home, 213 East E street, at 2:30 o'clock Monday morning after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Keil was 66 years old and was born January 10, 1851, in St. Louis. He married Miss Sophia Ulrich of this city October 28, 1873.

He is survived by his wife and six children all in Belleville:

Rosa Keil
[Ella]Mrs. Walter Fernau
Martha Keil
[Cornelia Ida] Mrs. Charles Freudenberg

He is also survived by one brother, six sisters:

Miss Lisetta Keil
Mrs Sophia Bender
Mrs. Minna Kanzler
Adolph Keil
Miss Ida Keil
[Emma] Mrs. Arnold Winkler
Miss Lulu Keil

... and 5 grandchildren.

Mr. Keil has been a resident of this city ever since his birth and has been in the hardware business with his son for many years. He took a prominent part in the fraternal duties of the Masons, Liederkranz, Philharmonic, and Turners, and gained a name for integrity in these organizations as well as in his business.

The funeral will be held under the auspices of the four societies of which he was a member, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, to Walnut Hill Cemetery.
