Naomi (seemed to prefer over Edith) was the daughter of Edward E. Schroeder and Carrie O. Geyer, who married on 18 Apr 1899 in Marshall County, Indiana. I found only three children for Edward and Carrie—Edith Naomi (12 Sep 1901), Olive R. (4 Feb 1904) and Clarice E. (4 May 1906).

The 1900 Census placed the newlyweds in Plymouth's North Township, Marshall Co., Indiana. Edward Schroeder, aged 37, was farming. Carrie, aged 29, was keeping house. Living next door to the couple were Edward's brother Robert Schroeder and his wife, also named Carrie.

By the time the 1910 Census came around, Edward and Carrie's three daughters had joined the family. Edward, aged 47, was busy with the farm. Carrie, aged 39, reported that she had had three children, all of them living—Edith (Naomi), aged 8, Olive, aged 6, and Clarice, aged 4.

The year before the next census, the family lost husband and father Edward in 1919 at age 56 or 57. I couldn’t find Carrie and the girls all together on the 1920 Census, but I may have found Carrie and Naomi, living in Plymouth's North Township on Gaskin Rd. Head of household looks like Nora Shroeder, the name Nora written over another name, aged 51. With her was daughter Naomi, aged 18.

I found them on the 1930 Census, living at 216 Strathmore Ave. in Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana. Head of household was Naomi's husband Alvin (Arvin on the record) Stoneburner. Alvin, aged 29, was earning a living as a truck driver for a transfer line. Naomi, aged 28, was also working, employed as a stenographer in an auto factory, likely Studebaker. Carrie, aged 58, was noted as widowed and identified as Alvin's mother-in-law. Also living with the family was Naomi's younger sister Clarice, aged 23. Naomi's sister Olive had married George White Dodson.

In 1940, I found the family living at 314 Oakside in South Bend, St. Joseph County. Alvin, aged 38, was working as a moulder in a factory. Naomi, aged 38, was keeping house. Naomi's mother Carrie, aged 68, was still living with the couple. Naomi's sister Clarice had married Floyd H. Platner on 6 Nov 1937 in Dekalb Co., Indiana.

Naomi's mother Carrie lived into her 93rd year of life, passing away in 1964. She was laid to rest next to Naomi's father Edward who had been patiently awaiting her for forty five years.

Alvin and Naomi would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary about 1973 (based on the 1930 Census that placed their marriage year at 1923).

In 1984, there was bad news. Naomi was diagnosed with breast cancer. She died on New Year's Eve two years later on 31 Dec 1986 at age 85. Alvin lived another eight years without her, passing on 15 Feb 1994 at age 92.
