Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 24 Feb. 1910. Read column.

Once again we are called upon to chronicle the death of one who, but a few days ago, was strong and in good health, and whom we have followed to the last resting place in the new cemetery. This time it is Grandfather John Funk. He was born in Germany Nov. 30, 1828, and came to America with his family in 1882, and settled at Clayton Center. His wife died thirty-seven years ago. He is survived by two sons, Carl, of this place, and John, who lives in the old country. The funeral was held Friday forenoon, Rev. Burkhardt officiating.
