Werner Herbert Garms was born to his loving caring parents Herman Johann and Marie Anna (Krumland) Garms on Saturday May 19, 1923 near Columbus, Platte County Nebraska. Werner was the youngest of six siblings, he had an older brother and four older sisters. Werner was baptized and reaffirmed his faith through his confirmation. Werner moved with his family to the Scribner area in 1936. Werner graduated from Scribner High in 1941. Werner was united in marriage to Elaine Dames on Thursday August 12, 1948, they were blessed with a son and a daughter over the years of their marriage. The couple farmed in the Scribner area. Two of his sisters Luella Rink and Thelma Garms also lived in that area. When I was a young boy I knew both of his sisters, Luella was married to Herbert Rink and they lived on a farm about a mile north of my folk's farm as the crow flew, their oldest daughter was in my elementary school class. Thelma attended the same church as the Rink's and my parents. Werner was an active member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church Laymen's League at Scribner, he held various church offices. Werner enjoyed Bible study. Werner aided his wife Elaine who was the church janitor since 1981. Sadly Werner passed on Wednesday October 31, 2007 in the Scribner area at the age of 84 years, 5 months, 12 days which does not include his last day, he lived a total of 30,846 days. Werner's visitation was held at the Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel from 3p to 8p with family receiving friends from 6p to 7:30p on Friday November 2, 2007. Werner's visitation continued one hour prior to his funeral service which was held at 10:30a on Saturday November 3, 2007 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church at Scribner with the Rev. Bruce Schut officiating. Werner was interred in the Scribner Municipal Cemetery with the marker inscription of "Married August 12, 1948". Werner's information was provided from researching many resources and my memory. This biography was created as an honor to Werner by a friend of the Rink family Loren R. I believe all lives matter, even the lives of those who have passed. Many details are still missing from his life, if you have any more details I will be happy to edit the additional information into this biography.
