Carl served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, he was one of the only survivors of the Toya Maru ferry disaster that took place on Sep. 26, 1954.
Carl worked almost 25 years for Firestone Wheel Division in Quincy, IL. raising his family in Ewing Mo. In May 1987 Carl and his family settled in Neosho Mo. and he was a custodian for the Neosho School system until he retired. He was a member of the Assembly of God church both in Ewing and later transferred to Neosho Bible Holiness church. His passion was yard and garden, carpentry, and reading the daily newspaper. He was a godly man who read his Bible daily and had the highest of respect from those who knew him, and he had a great reputation.
Carl was preceded in death by both of his parents. Surviving family members include his wife, Carol (Willey) Benner of Granby, five sons and their families, Craig Benner of Oklahoma, Curk Benner of Texas, Christopher Benner, Cameron Benner, and Clifford Benner all from the local area here in Missouri, and one daughter, Carmen Chilson of Florida. One sister still survives, Wanda Sparks of Kirksville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at the Bible Holiness Church in Neosho, Missouri.
