He held various jobs throughout his lifetime - farming, carpetry, sales, CCC Camp work, and construction until 1935 when he began working for the US Postal Service. In 1940 he transferred to Los Angeles where he died after a stroke. Erik and Helen had three children: Wendell Erik, Muriel Elizabeth, and Sonya Myrza.
