Parents: Swedish immigrants Erik Magnus Eriksson and Maria Charlotta Amelia Andersdotter. His parents were one of the first Swedish missionaries to India in 1877 before emigrating to America in 1884. Erik had 7 siblings: Axel, Gustaf, Anna, Otto, Frida, Emma, and Christina. Erik's birth family moved to parsonages including Worthington and Holmes City Minnesota, where he met and married his wife Helen Augusta Holm in 1917.

He was with the Medical Detachment, 313 Field Signal Batallion 88th Division in the Alsace area of France during World War I. He held various jobs throughout his lifetime - farming, carpetry, sales, CCC Camp work, and construction until 1935 when he began working for the US Postal Service. In 1940 he transferred to Los Angeles where he died after a stroke. Erik and Helen had three children: Wendell Erik, Muriel Elizabeth, and Sonya Myrza.
