Sandy resident, Steve Hergert passed away at Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. He was 80.

A Funeral Service was held at Sandy Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21, 201.5 Burial was at Scandinavian Cemetery in Sandy.

Steve Carl Hergert was born on March 28, 1935 in Portland to Henry and Aurelia (Pauli) Hergert. He was raised in Portland and received his schooling there. Shortly after graduating from Benson High School, he entered the U.S. Army. In 1960 Steve was honorably discharged and returned to Portland.

On October 8, 1960 Steve was united in marriage to Barbara Eacret in Vancouver, Washington. They made their home in Portland where they began their family. Steve worked for B.P. John’s Furniture Company. He later began working in the Auto Body Industry, owning and operating Steve C. Hergert Body and Paint in Portland. After selling the business, he worked for Sysco Food Service until retiring in 2007.

Steve enjoyed watching car racing, going to car shows, working on VW Bugs, spending time at the coast and traveling to local area casinos. He liked to play Bingo at the Mt Hood Lions Club and taking road trips with his Welches Senior Center friends. He loved his grandchildren and at Halloween he would go to his daughter’s home and hand out candy.

Surviving is his wife Barbara; his daughters, Kerri Ligatich of Hawaii and Kim Lunyou of Cascade Locks; his son, Jeff Hergert of Sandy; 4 grandchildren, Lisa, Rachel, Michael and Kelli; and 3 great grandchildren, Mahala, Archer and Gaius.
