Edna Marie Roeper, 89, of Cottonwood, passed away Nov. 12, 2015, at Life Care Center in Lewiston, with family members by her side. Edna was the last surviving member of the immediate Joseph and Mary Mader family. The fourth of seven children, Edna was born in Keuterville and moved with the family to Cottonwood at the age of 2. Edna attended St. Joseph Elementary School and graduated from St. Gertrude's Academy in 1944.

During her high school years, Edna worked at the local grocery store, the bakery and for the phone company. Edna and Percy Roeper were married by Msgr. J. M. Verhoeven on June 26, 1945, at St. Mary's Church in Cottonwood. They lived in Ferdinand until 1973, when they built a home in Cottonwood. In their early years, Edna and Percy enjoyed square dancing, bowling, playing pinochle and socializing. Edna was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and was active in Altar Society, Christian Mothers and the Idaho Catholic Deanery. One of Edna's passions was playing bridge in both the Ferdinand and Cottonwood clubs. In later years, Edna and Percy traveled, visiting their children and grandchildren. Their home was the gathering place for family celebrations, and the coffee pot was always on for neighbors and friends. Edna enjoyed watching the Seattle Mariners and the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

Edna and Percy raised six children, five daughters and one son. Edna was an accomplished seamstress and burned the midnight oil for many years keeping her daughters in dresses. Edna and her friend Julie Lurwig made the bridesmaids dresses for all five of her daughters' weddings. Edna was a registrar and worked at the local elections for years.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Percy; her parents, Joseph and Mary Mader; her brothers and sister-in-law, Wilfred and Fran Mader, and Fred, Harold and Walter Mader; and sisters and brothers-in-law Charlotte and Joe Staab and Loretta and Clarence Mosman.

Edna is survived by her six children, 21 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. *Survivors names omitted per findagrave policy.

There will be visitation from 1 until 8 p.m. Monday at Uhlorn Funeral Home in Cottonwood. Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Church, Cottonwood, followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Cottonwood Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Uhlorn Funeral Home in Cottonwood.

Edna was at her best when surrounded by her family. She was a spitfire and her feistiness saw her through good times and bad. To say we will miss her is an understatement. Be at peace, Mom.
