John Harold "Jack" Karsten, age 81 of formerly of Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday morning, March 11, 2014 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

Jack was born on October 2, 1932 in Deerfield Township, Steele County, MN, the son of Harold W. and Candace M. (Crandell) Karsten. He attended Washington Rural School near Deerfield, MN.
He served with the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He married Bette Lou Carlson on June 20, 1959 in Nashua, IA and they later divorced.
He was employed in construction, and later worked as a supervisor for Sunstar Foods (now known as Long Prairie Packing Plant) for 31 years, retiring in 1994. After retirement, he worked part-time at the Cannon Falls Beacon.
He loved birds and animals, and was able to speak their language. He took great pride in his flowers and lawn, and enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his children, Connie (Richard) Gesme of MN/AZ, Brian and John D. (Marty) Karsten, both of Cortez, CO; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Carol) of Medford, Harley (Susan) of Lubbock, TX and Steven (Brenda) of Owatonna; sisters-in-law, Zona Karsten of Owatonna and Sylvia Karsten of Cortez, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy; grandson, Joshua; and brothers, Richard and Marvin.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15 from 5-7 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.
