Beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, November 15, 2015, at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre. Age 90 years. Bob was born on September 9, 1925, in Toledo, OH, to the late Louis and Anna (Giese) Groening, moving to Saginaw as a young child. Bob graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1943. He attended flight training school at Moorhead College in Minnesota. Bob had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant and flight navigator on B-17s and B-29s during WWII. Bob met Beverly June Talcott while stationed in Sioux City, IA. They were married on July 13, 1945, in Monroe, Louisiana. She predeceased him on May 29, 1986. Bob was owner of Nuechterlein's Jewelry since 1963 when he purchased it from his uncle, M.J. Nuechterlein. Bob was an excellent jeweler and watchmaker. He was a great conversationalist due to his many interests and hobbies. He loved cars, racing, photography, guns, airplanes, and most of all, reading. He had an unusual capacity for learning and remembering many details and facts. He was a member of Holy Cross Ev. Lutheran Church, having served on various boards, and past president of the Riverside Kiwanis.

Surviving are his five children and their spouses, Sally (David) Hovis, Linda (Sam) Buggia, Richard R. Groening, Nancy (Craig) Martin, and Todd (Laura) Groening; 10 grandchildren, Holly DeMasi, Chandra Mullineaux, Larisa Buggia, Alexis Franz, Allison Roscoe, Daniel Groening, Tonisha Seader, Devin Mares, Matthew and Seth Groening; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his brothers, James and Thomas Groening, and sister Marjorie Beecher.

Funeral service will take place 11:30 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2015, at Holy Cross Ev. Lutheran Church, 600 Court St., Saginaw. The Rev. James F. Krueger will officiate with burial in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery where military honor guard will be conducted under the auspices of American Legion Post 439. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw, on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Ev.
